Maybe you didn’t plan to spend your whole vacation in Drage, but Porat Beach is reason enough for a day trip. We’ve tested it (more than once!) and here’s why you should too!
Porat Beach – how to get there?
Porat Beach is located in the small village of Drage, between Pakoštane and Pirovac. Getting there is super easy – no squeezing through narrow streets or long walks from the car to the beach, dragging all the stuff you’ve packed.
While the locals often just bring a towel and a few euros for coffee (and spend most of their “swim” time in the café), you’ll want to bring everything you need for a full day on the beach – there’s a huge parking lot just 20 meters from the shore.
The downside? The parking isn’t free, and the rules tend to change every year, so it’s best to check the fees once you arrive. You can even ask the staff at the first café you pass on the way to the beach – they’ll know!
So, just type “Beach Porat” into Google Maps and follow the route! Here’s the link to make it even easier. The parking lot is big, you’ll always find a spot – but try not to park in front of someone’s house or on private property. That’s just not cool. :)
Clear water, a kids' paradise
Yes, we’ll show you photos of an empty beach so you can see the beautiful blue – crystal-clear water. During peak season, expect a lot of people and children, so if you're a fan of peace and quiet, take a little stroll towards the forest – you’ll surely find a calm spot. Note: You’ll need to get there early! The best spots tend to be taken from the morning, but can you really beat a morning on the beach?
Porat Beach is pebbly, making it perfect for kids – shallow enough, but not too “far,” just right so adults can swim without having to walk 200 meters through the shallow waters. So, it’s the perfect balance.
The pine forest offers shade – if you arrive on time!
What to eat? Drink? Try?
As soon as you arrive at the parking lot, you’ll notice a spot offering food and drinks. Don’t just walk past it – the menu is really great!
Besides coffee with a view of the sea and the island of Vrgada, Pizzeria and Bar Porat offers pizzas (prepared by an expert pizza chef), grilled meats, fish, salads and sandwiches. Prices are quite affordable: coffee with milk is 2€, and pizzas start at 8€. You can try a sandwich for just 4€, and trust us, you won’t leave hungry! This is currently one of the most affordable places on the Adriatic that we’ve had the chance to visit.
We’re sharing a few of their dishes here... but beware – don’t look at this if you’re hungry!
Time for some fun!
After recharging your batteries with these high-calorie meals, it’s time to stretch those legs a bit! At Porat Beach, you’ll find pedal boats and SUP boards for rent, and for the kids, there’s also a sea adventure park – perfect for burning off some energy (theirs and yours).
With a pedal boat or SUP board, don’t go too far, especially if you don’t have much sea experience. Just exploring the bay and getting a view of the beach from a different perspective is enough – the sights are absolutely beautiful.
The sea is mostly calm, so this is the perfect opportunity for those who are just getting into paddling.
If you decide to stay a bit longer...
Around Porat Beach, there are plenty of accommodation options – all you need to do is ask yourself: what suits you best?
- For the adventurous souls who love the sound of the sea and the scent of pine trees, a camping spot with a tent will be a perfect choice. Minimalism, nature, and a starry sky above you – the ultimate romantic experience!
- If you like the idea of camping but still want a bit more comfort, mobile homes offer the best of both worlds. Air conditioning, a little kitchen, a terrace, and sometimes even an outdoor shower...
- For those who prefer more traditional accommodation, you can find plenty of apartments. From simple ones to those with large terraces and breathtaking sea views. Some are just steps from the beach
- And if you’re looking for something a little more private, there are holiday homes too – ideal for families or groups who want their peace and quiet, a BBQ in the yard, and maybe even a pool if you’re lucky
Whether you’re into tents, mobile homes, a seaside apartment, or a house in the shade – Drage and Porat have the perfect place for everyone! Check it out and find your perfect spot!
